The nation isn’t threatened by him or them; it’s you, me, and us. We college guys are shielded from the truth by our self-congratulatory media, which comforted us with half-truths.

Think about it: We have a responsibility and dependency on those damn “deplorables”: They sustain us.

We the college guys, the NYT-CNN watchers, the hedge fund, Wall Street, K Street, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Madison Ave, Faculty Club crowd; are a bit too full of ourselves.  

The Boston Globe comforts us, saying our superior IQ entitles us to all we have. But the elitism has become top-heavy. Our country has had its fill of arrogant self-importance.

Working-class America understands that hedge fund people won’t feed us when we’re hungry. Faculty Club scholars won’t defend you if attacked, and Madison Ave media moguls can’t warm you when the heat stops.

Those deplorable dirty fingernail rubes keep you and me going each day.  How about some humility- dare I say it, gratitude?

Nobody is asking approval for your gorgeous quarter-million-dollar baccalaureate daughter to marry a hillbilly cattleman or oil rig hick.

Deplorables are not asking for clean Silicon Valley software jobs or a Madison Ave marketing paycheck.

We college guys get better health, longer marriages, and the nation’s highest income, so how about some respect for the workers? Those who feed, protect, house, and heat us, as well as allow for our mobility. They, too, have a say in a democracy, even if you and I disagree with them.

We had a peaceful democratic election of fellow countrymen. This wasn’t a mob burnging down Versailles.
