WHY IT TOOK SO LONG TO GET SMART

I want to be proud of my ancestors, but they screwed up. They spent a disgraceful half-million years doing nothing.  Thousands of generations were lost… Well, not exactly lost like “Dead”. But what the hell were they doing from 400,000 B.C to 6,000 B.C.? They’re dead now with zip to show for it.

It’s a shameful story, and all of us should feel bad:

Homo Sapiens arrived half a million years ago. Their upright bodies, brain wiring, skull size, and capabilities were almost identical to ours today. Then, finally, the year 4,000 B.C. arrived, and by magic, someone turned on the Homosapien lights … They awoke. In relatively no time, they went from stones to bronze to iron/steel, to titanium. They started with spears, then guns, then ICBMs to nukes and on into the Space Age almost overnight.

How could civilization, culture, and technology stay dormant for ions, and then explode in such a short time?

It started on the Tigres River, Mesopotamia (3,600 B.C.). Then on to the Indus River Valley, India (3,300 B.C. and next, the Nile River, Egypt (3,150 B.C). Then came China’s Xia Period (2,000 B.C.)

Homo sapiens wandered around those damn caves for hundreds of millennia, and then, around 6,000 years ago, they finally got their smarts. Yes, there were prerequisites, such as learning to talk and write, and, of course, they needed agriculture to get enough food to feed the nerds and the thinking class. But how could they fiddle with stones for half a million years and then one guy suddenly stands up and announces,

“Hey, let’s all go out and build a pyramid out of twenty-ton blocks

Then a few millennia pass, and someone else up in Mesopotamia says

“Let’s build a Hanging Garden of Babylon”.  

Next thing you know those homos sapiens are riding rockets to the moon. Who would have believed those sleepy lunkheads could have gone so far, so fast?

Were they retarded slow learners in the beginning? Maybe they had   Divine intervention or visits by alien tutors who goosed up their evolution?

It makes you wonder where we would be now if our early innovators had not screwed around for hundreds of thousand years.
